Dan Rybicky and Aaron Wickenden's film about their discovery and caretaking of elderly artist Peter Anton was one of just 38 films selected from over 1,200 submissions and is our first film to screen at the increasingly popular and prestigious festival since 2011, when The Interrupters (on which Wickenden was an editor), screened there.
True/False "seeks to highlight films that challenge traditional notions of nonfiction filmmaking by being more cinematic, character-driven, narrative and even experimental," and we feel Almost There certainly fits in that category. A film which Aaron Wickenden also edited, Best of Enemies will screen as True/False's opening night film.
Before True/False, Almost There screens 7pm tomorrow at the Big Sky Documentary Festival in Missoula, Montana (get tickets), at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA) in Grand Rapids on February 21 (get tickets), and on February 28th at the Big Muddy Film Festival in Carbondale, Illinois (get tickets).
These screenings follow the film's widely acclaimed DOC NYC 2014 world premiere and LA and Chicago premieres. From the Chicago screenings, Matt Fagerholm of Indie Outlook wrote that the film was "one of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen."
More festivals and screenings will be announced for the film soon! www.almostthereproject.com.
