The Cinema Eye Honors have nominated Life Itself for five awards, including Outstanding Nonfiction Feature of the year. The film, about the life and legacy of Roger Ebert, was also nominated for Best Direction (Steve James), Best Editing (Steve James and David E. Simpson), Best Score (Joshua Abrams), and the Audience Choice Award. Previously, the Cinema Eye Honors had announced Chaz and Roger Ebert as selections in their "annual list of “The Unforgettables” – this year’s most notable and significant nonfiction film subjects." Steve James and Life Itself producer Zak Piper previously won two Cinema Eye Honors in 2012 for Outstanding Nonfiction Feature and for Best Direction with The Interrupters. The Cinema Eye Honors for Nonfiction Filmmaking were founded in late 2007 to recognize and honor exemplary craft and innovation in nonfiction film. Winners of the 8th Annual Cinema Eye Honors will be announced Wednesday, January 7, 2015 in New York City at the Museum of the Moving Image. It's UK theatrical release, via Dogwoof, is November 14. It will be released on DVD and air on CNN in the USA in 2015.
