Introducing Our Interim Executive Director

Dear Friends,

I am happy to announce that K. Sujata has accepted the position of Interim Executive Director of Kartemquin Films.

Sujata, former Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago Foundation for Women, brings more than 20 years of nonprofit management, financial, and organizational experience to Kartemquin.

While at the Chicago Foundation for Women, Sujata raised more than $35 million increasing invested assets by 200 percent, managed a merger with another public foundation, and developed signature initiatives to advance racial and gender equity. Read her full bio here.

We are grateful to have Sujata's experience at KTQ during this time of transition and this difficult moment for the world -- from COVID-19 challenging every aspect of our lives, to the senseless and horrific deaths of innocent Black people by the police. It has all resulted in a reckoning around racial injustice, and KTQ is working to listen and to allow our diverse community of filmmakers to lead our evolution from a White-led media institution to fostering an accessible, inclusive space that centers filmmakers and their voices, especially those that identify as Black, Indigenous, POC, LGBTQ, womxn, gender non-conforming, and people with disabilities. Kartemquin will benefit from Sujata’s leadership here and her fresh perspective, especially during this time of transition and reflection.

As Kartemquin’s Interim Executive Director, Sujata will be in place for up to one year while a search is underway for a permanent Executive Director. This search will begin in 2021.

Thank you for believing in us and for your continued support. Please join me in welcoming Sujata to Kartemquin.

Best,

Pamela Sherrod Anderson, Kartemquin Films Board Chair
