In the Game receives Christopher Award; heads to Morocco with AFS

In the Game, directed by Peabody Award-winning director Maria Finitzo has been chosen as a recipient of a 2017 Christopher Award in the TV/Cable category at the 68th annual Christopher Awards ceremony! Since 1949, the Christopher Awards have annually saluted media (TV programming, feature films, books for adults and children) that affirm the highest values of the human spirit and reflect the Christopher motto, β€œIt’s better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.” The goal of The Christophers is to encourage artists to pursue excellence in creative arenas that have the potential to influence large audiences in a positive way. "The friendships that form between coach and players on an inner city girls' high school soccer team drive them to pursue big dreams in spite of poverty, discrimination and underfunded school." –The Christophers The award announcement comes on the heels of the film and director Maria Finitzo traveling and screening in Tajikistan and India with the American Film Showcase, the United States' premier film diplomacy program. AFS organizes screenings and workshops with American filmmakers in more than 40 countries, in partnership with the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and USC's School of Cinematic Arts. In April, In the Game and producer Mary Morrissette will travel to Morocco and screen in cities including Casablanca, Safi, Marrakech, Beni Mellal and Rabat.
