Democracy Now! interviews Kartemquin filmmakers Bill Siegel and Gordon Quinn about the film that presents “a new look at the boxing legend Muhammad Ali”

The Trials of Muhammad Ali Director Bill Siegel and Executive Producer Gordon Quinn appear today on Democracy Now! in a segment called, “The Trials of Muhammad Ali: Boxing Champ’s Refusal to Serve in Vietnam Was The Fight of His Life.” Director Bill Siegel talks about why he decided to make the film, and why “we never saw the best Ali in the ring.” “It’s a journey film that says as much about us as it does about him,” Bill tells Democracy Now! producers Juan Gonzalez and Amy Goodman. During the Democracy Now! segment that features two exclusive clips from the film, Director Bill Siegel talks about why this intimate film about Ali is different than all the others, about the powerful clip that opens the film, and Executive Producer Gordon Quinn tells about his personal connection to the story presented in the film and why Kartemquin decided to partner with Siegel. “It’s an amazing story, and it’s amazing to think that these folks have rarely been interviewed,” Amy Goodman tells Siegel. The Trials of Muhammad Ali premieres today at Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
