Producer Alex Kotlowitz and star Eddie Bocanegra of The Interrupters were interviewed by Neal Conan for NPR's "The Talk of the Nation" last week at the Aspen Ideas Festival. Listen to the full interview online. Eddie spoke movingly of his experiences as a violence interrupter in Chicago, and his comfort in knowing that he has "made a difference in some people's lives" through his work. Eddie and Alex also took call-in questions from the public. Alex and Eddie were at the festival along with the film's director Steve James and Tio Hardiman, director of Ceasefire Illinois. This week in Chicago, Kartemquin is hosting a Youth Media Summit at Columbia College Chicago. A group of 80-100 students will watch The Interrupters and then discuss ways in which they can use the film's positive message to advance violence prevention in their communities. The Interrupters opens in cinemas in New York on July 29 before touring major US and UK cities through August, September and October. The film was last week at #1 on IndieWIRE's list of "The 5 Indie Films You Must See this July." Check the film's events page for all confirmed upcoming cinematic release dates.
