The True/False Film Festival will host two screenings of The Interrupters this weekend (details here). Producer Alex Kotlowitz is already in Columbia, Missouri for the festival, and has been making appearances on local radio and television.
Alex will be joined by violence interrupters Cobe Williams, Ameena Matthews and Eddie Bocanegra today for a special visit to Hickman High School, a local school that has raised over $3,000 for the film as part of True/False True Life Fund, of which The Interrupters is this year's grateful recipient. Tomorrow morning, hundreds of people are also scheduled to run the True/False 5K True Life Run, with proceeds also benefiting the True Life Fund. Runners also get discounted tickets to The Interrupters screenings. We'd like to thank True/False, The Crossing (True Life Fund sponsors), Hickman High School, and all the True Life Runners for their amazing generosity and they incredible welcome they've given to the film.
As well as these fun events and the two screenings, The Interrupters director Steve James and interrupter Ameena Matthews will participate in a panel on Sunday at 12:30pm titled "Off the Screen and Into the Streets." The panel will discuss outreach plans for the film, and we invite attendees to share their own ideas on how the film can best reach its target audience.
