The SXSW Film Festival yesterday announced that The Interrupters will be one of the "festival favorites" screenings at this year's festival, with a special one-off screening set for March 16th at 12:30pm.
The SXSW appearance will be the film's fourth festival appearance in March, following on from its success at Sundance in January. The film will also play twice at each of the Adelaide Film Festival, True/False Film Festival and Miami International Film Festival.
The violence interrupters themselves will attend the True/False True Life Fund screening, along with director Steve James. If you plan to attend True/False, please consider donating to the True Life Fund, which will directly benefit the film, or running the True Life Run - for which you will get a great t-shirt featuring Cobe, Ameena and Eddie!
Accolades for the film also still continue to come in from Sundance. Paste magazine recently called The Interrupters the "Best Sundance Documentary", and we strongly recommend you listen to the latest Documentary Blog Podcast, which has a discussion of the film and an excellent interview with Steve and Alex about the film's production.
In the interview, both Steve Alex give a great shout out to Kartemquin. Steve calls it "my home as a documentary filmmaker... I would encourage people to go there to learn about the terrific work Kartemquin has been doing for 45 years," and Alex states "It is a great gathering place for filmmakers. I wish they had a place like Kartemquin for writers."
