Kartemquin Films won two Emmy Awards tonight at the 37th News and Documentary Emmys in New York City.
The Homestretch, directed and produced by Kirsten Kelly and Anne de Mare, won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Business and Economic Reporting - Long Form.
Life Itself won Outstanding Editing: Documentary And Long Form for the film's Editors Steve James and David E. Simpson.

Director Steve James concluded his speech to 1,000 Kartemquin supporters on Friday, June 24th by quoting the late Roger Ebert. “Chaz’s husband once said very memorably that movies are a machine that generates empathy,” said James. “If there has ever been an organization and a film company whose mission was to generate empathy, it is Kartemquin.”

Ahead of our 50th anniversary celebration on June 24th at the Harris Theater Rooftop, we open our archives to the Chicago public with the exhibition “Kartemquin Films 1966-2016: Democracy through Documentary” opening on May 21st and running through August 20th at Expo 72 (72 E. Randolph St, Chicago, IL, 60601).

WTTW, Chicago's premier public television station, will broadcast a year-long series of Kartemquin's award-winning films in honor of our 50th anniversary.
The monthly series will feature films from each decade of Kartemquin’s history, including the classic Hoop Dreams (1994), which will air in June 2016, to coincide with a Kartemquin “Milestones” gala celebration at the Chicago Cultural Center and Harris Theater on June 24, and an art exhibition running May-August at Expo 72.

Anne de Mare and Kirsten Kelly's The Homestretch will screen at the 2015 CNEX Documentary Film Festival in Taipei, Taiwan this September for its Asian premiere. We are very honored to have the film included.
