Kartemquin is saddened to learn of the passing of three friends and KTQ associates, Ryszard Nykiel, Ruth L Ratny and David Szabo.
Ryszard Nykiel, described as an "extraordinarily talented shooter" by KTQ co-founder and Artistic Director Gordon Quinn, worked on Kartemquin classics such as The Last Pullman Car and Golub. Nykiel also worked with KTQ collective member Judy Hoffman on several of her projects.

#KTQ50 Los Angeles retrospective begins this Friday with Raising Bertie LA premiere

Beginning this Friday September 16th and continuing through September 26th, the UCLA Film and Television Archive and the International Documentary Association (IDA) will host a 15-film KTQ retrospective at the Billy Wilder Theater in Los Angeles.

WTTW honors Black History Month and 50th Anniversary of Kartemquin with broadcast of The Trials of Muhammad Ali

WTTW, Chicago's premier public television station, will broadcast The Trials of Muhammad Ali at 10pm on Thursday, February 25th as part of a year-long series honoring the 50th anniversary of not-for-profit Chicago documentary collective Kartemquin Films.
Winner of Outstanding Historical - Long Form award at the 36th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards in September 2015, The Trials of Muhammad Ali covers Ali’s toughest bout: detailing how the boxing legend fought a potential five year prison sentence for refusing military service in Vietnam, risking his fame and fortune to follow his faith and conscience.

Houston Cinema Arts Festival to Host Tribute to Kartemquin Films

This year’s Houston Cinema Arts Festival, which takes place from November 12-19, will be hosting a tribute to Kartemquin Films. As part of this incredible honor, three of our documentaries - Golub, On Beauty, and Almost There - will screen at the festival, and there will also be two free panel discussions. Gordon Quinn will be in attendance for the screenings as well as participating as a panelist.

International Documentary Association to honor Gordon Quinn with Career Achievement Award

The International Documentary Association (IDA) will present its prestigious 2015 Career Achievement Award to Gordon Quinn, Founder and Artistic Director of Kartemquin Films.
Gordon will receive the honor at the 31st Annual IDA Documentary Awards at Paramount Pictures' Paramount Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 5, 2015.
Previous winners of the illustrious award include Robert Redford, Werner Herzog, Barbara Kopple, DA Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus, Ricky Leacock, Albert Maysles, Frederick Wiseman, Henry Hampton, Robert Drew, Michael Moore, Marcel Ophuls, Jean Rouch, Walter Cronkite, and Bill Moyers.

Gordon Quinn, Almost There, and KTQ to Feature at 7th Annual Houston Cinema Arts Festival

The Houston Cinema Arts Festival announced today that Gordon Quinn and Kartemquin Films would be honored at its 7th annual festival. Held from November 12th through November 19th, 2015, HCAF is hosted by the Houston Cinema Arts Society and is dedicated to showcasing films about the arts.

Watch Golub for free on POV in honor of Jerry Blumenthal

Last November, Kartemquin founding partner Jerry Blumenthal passed away. His brilliance as a person and a filmmaker inspired many fond tributes.
The acclaimed PBS documentary series P.O.V. then approached us with an interest in honoring Jerry Blumenthal's memory by streaming for free online one of his very finest films: Golub (1988), which originally aired on P.O.V. in 1990.
The film is now streaming for free on their website until March 31, 2015.

Gordon Quinn to serve on Sundance 2015 U.S. Documentary Jury
