In a society that prioritizes male-centric sex education, Maria Finitzo’s crucial documentary seeks to demystify and educate on female desire, anatomy, and sexuality.

Why is female sexuality largely considered so taboo? This is just one of the many questions THE DILEMMA OF DESIRE explores and dismantles. Everywhere from scientific textbooks depicting anatomical makeup to the physical design of sex toys, the male perspective is undeniably entrenched in our society. It’s no wonder, then, that the majority of people (women very much included) do not even know what the female sexual organ looks like. Focusing on two scientists, a conceptual artist, and an industrial designer, the women of this documentary find radical and empowering ways of using their work to disrupt the myths and lies surrounding female bodies and desire. Countless other women share their stories of personal exploration and education, giving the documentary a sense of widespread urgency. THE DILEMMA OF DESIRE is a pertinent and comprehensive look into the world of female sexuality, with compassion and powerful destruction at its core.
