First Kartemquin Fall Festival exhibits and celebrates Chicago's diverse documentary community

Kartemquin's very first Fall Festival, in partnership with ArcLight Cinemas Chicago, spanned three days and exhibited 26 films, 62% of which were directed by filmmakers of color and 50% by women. We were thrilled to be joined by so many members of the diverse Chicago documentary community, and to share in the viewing of groundbreaking work and lively post-screening discussions.

We would like to thank all who came to last night's Kartemquin Spring Showcase. We were thrilled to see the sold out crowd at the Gene Siskel Film Center engaging so passionately and thoughtfully with these new works-in-progress; and in turn, to see the four debut directors so eloquently explaining their filmmaking choices, and future hopes for their films.

Bertha Foundation Funds Kartemquin

The Bertha Foundation has awarded a general operating support grant to Kartemquin Films in the amount of $10,000. The funds will be primarily used to support our field-building programs in service of documentary makers, which we operate alongside and as part of producing our award-winning films and nurturing filmmakers.
