The Interrupters and A Good Man both screen this week at the Minneapolis / St. Paul Film Festival, with this coming Sunday giving the opportunity for Kartemquin fans to see both films back-to-back, with Gordon Quinn and Steve James in attendance. Here are the dates:

As part of Kartemquin's 45th anniversary celebrations, Stranger Than Fiction at IFC Center hosted a great screening and discussion of The Chicago Maternity Center Story last night in New York City. Filmmakers Gordon Quinn and Suzanne Davenport attended, and were joined on a panel by Thom Powers of Stranger Than Fiction and medical journalist and original 1970's WATCH homebirth activist Laura Newman.

Kartemquin's Executive Director Justine Nagan recently visited two high school AVID classes while in Minnesota as a part of KTQ's 45th anniversary. She spoke to freshmen and juniors at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School about social issue documentary, careers in media and the future of film, showing clips from several KTQ works.

Four new docs produced by Kartemquin Films – The Interrupters, Prisoner of Her Past, A Good Man, and Typeface – will screen in the Twin Cities this April as part of Kartemquin’s 45th anniversary celebration. All showings except Typeface are Minneapolis / St.Paul and Minnesota State premieres.

We are delighted to announce a special Kartemquin 45th anniversary screening of the newly restored The Chicago Maternity Center Story in New York City. The screening is presented by Stranger Than Fiction at the IFC Center and will take place on April 19 at 8pm. Gordon Quinn and Suzanne Davenport, two of the film's five co-directors, will attend and take part in a discussion following the screening.

Inquiring Nuns was broadcast on WTTW in Chicago last night as the opening film in their year-long celebration of Kartemquin's 45th anniversary. A film about two nuns wandering the streets of Chicago asking people "are you happy?" was never going to fail to get a response, and the classic 1968 cinema verite documentary did just that.
