Today sees the launch of The School Project, a new documentary series on the public education system in Chicago.
The transmedia launch includes a sold out live event tonight at 7pm at the Chicago History Museum, online release via http://www.schoolprojectfilm.com and the websites of all our outreach partners, and broadcast on two Chicago TV stations, WTTW and CAN TV.
Gordon will also present a masterclass on documentary filmmaking ethics at the Arkansas-based festival, which runs October 10-19 and is the oldest all-documentary film festival in North America. Multiple Kartemquin films will also screen at the festival.
Censorship vs. free expression is an ages-old story, one that still plays on a daily basis the world over. We as Americans do not need to look as far as countries like Turkey (who recently banned Twitter and YouTube) to see that private interests consistently test the freedom and resolve of the people.
Kartemquin is proud to announce a collaboration with Al Jazeera America on Hard Earned, a six-part documentary series scheduled to air in early 2015. Production has already begun on the series, which will explore the lives of five American families striving to keep food on the table and their dignity intact despite the reality of high living expenses and low wages.
