We're delighted to announce that we’ve received funding for our Diverse Voices in Film Project thanks to support from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and The Joyce Foundation. Both organizations have contributed $5,000 towards the implementation of this new community program which will launch in 2012.

This past week, four Kartemquin interns – John Fecile (myself), Chris Bentley, Ryan Gleeson, and Haley Martin – joined a loose federation of independent documentary filmmakers to cover the events surrounding the NATO summit.

Tuesday night's inaugural KTQ Labs Spring Showcase was a great success - or at least, that is the feedback we received from the sell out crowd! The new event, which previewed four new in-progress Kartemquin documentaries and then invited audience responses, featured great conversation, insights into the filmmaking process and tasty empanadas. We can't wait to do another one soon!

Google Chicago will be hosting a screening and discussion of The Interrupters, Kartemquin's award-winning feature about gang violence prevention and the gripping stories of three CeaseFire violence interrupters on the job in Chicago. The film begins at 6 PM and will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Zak Piper (producer and sound operator), Cobe Williams (CeaseFire violence interrupter), and Tracy Swartz (RedEye reporter for The Chicago Tribune). Register online to get free tickets. There are a limited number of seats available, and priority is given to those who do 15 or more new reviews (25 for pairs) on Google Places using the free application you can download for either your computer or your phone. Google Chicago will e-mail you with seat confirmation prior to the screening.
