The New Kartemquin Board

In November, Kartemquim's board of directors will meet for the third time eager to continue laying the groundwork that will carry the organization into an exciting future. The newly expanded and diversified board was formed early this year to address the needs of an organization that has much evolved since the initial board formation in 1975.

The first Kartemquin board consisted solely of original stakeholders.†At that time we were an intimate group of filmmakers working on a handful of communal projects.†Since then, Kartemquin has grown into a media arts organization with longstanding relationships in the Filmmaking and Media Policy communities. We are also a proud home to a diverse body of filmmakers. Members of our organization are increasingly taking on speaking and teaching engagements, focusing on the idea that public media and Fair Use are central tenants of a democratic society.

Spearheaded by the Kartemquin Films Board Development Group, we have now assembled a diverse working board that more accurately reflects these significant changes in the nature of the organization. In the upcoming months the new board will work to focus our mission and vision, provide support as we venture into new areas of fundraising and distribution, and help maximize Kartemquin's overall impact on the community.
