We are excited to have Almost There, a transmedia film project by Dan Rybicky and Aaron Wickenden, as an official Kartemquin production.
The film tells the story of the filmmakers befriending 'outsider artist' Peter Anton, 79, who has spent decades obsessively chronicling his life story in a massive, illustrated autobiography titled “Almost There.” In the process of helping launching an art exhibit of his work, a number of events occur that question society's classification of artists and outsiders, and have the filmmakers questioning their own motives and role in Anton's life, asking what responsibilities do we have to others in need, and where should boundaries be drawn?
Dan and Aaron estimate they have completed around 80% of shooting on the project, which is currently fundraising and was recently selected for the "Spotlight on Documentaries" section of IFP New York's Independent Film Week.
