Hulu today released the official trailer for Minding the Gap, the Sundance Special Jury Award-winning film directed, produced and edited by Bing Liu, produced by Diane Quon, and edited by Joshua Altman.
The film will be available on Hulu and released theatrically by Magnolia Pictures beginning August 17.
Minding the Gap has thus far accumulated 28 award recognitions since its world premiere at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival – where the film earned the Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Filmmaking – including top awards at Sheffield Doc/Fest, Full Frame, Sarasota, Ashland, Mountainfilm, Minneapolis St. Paul, Nashville, RiverRun, and Docs Against Gravity. Variety listed first-time director Bing Liu as one of '10 Documentarians to Watch in 2018.'
Liu originally brought the film to Kartemquin through our Diverse Voices in Docs (DVID) program, a professional mentorship program for documentary makers of color organized by Kartemquin Films and the Community Film Workshop of Chicago.
"When I first started developing Minding the Gap, I knew I wanted it to be accessible to young audiences, so I’m enthused with the reach the film will have as a Hulu Original,” said Liu. “The film has elicited strong emotional responses with festival viewers around the world, so I’m happy with Hulu’s plans for a theatrical release and an outreach campaign to engage audiences in discussing the issues the film explores. I’m infinitely grateful for the friends and collaborators who’ve made the film possible, especially the brave participants of the film.”
