In honor of Memorial Day, SnagFilms included Vietnam, Long Time Coming in its special line-up of films "that enable us all to honor the fallen, and to reflect on our own duties of remembrance and action." SnagFilms hosts a website where you can watch full-length documentary films for free, and is also a platform that lets you “snag” a film and put it anywhere on the web. At the Death House Door receives a DGA Award nomination

Kartemquin is thrilled to announce that Peter Gilbert and Steve James have been nominated for the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary for At the Death House Door. It is Peter's third DGA nomination (he won in 1998 with Jerry Blumenthal and Gordon Quinn for Vietnam: Long Time Coming). It is Steve's second nomination, having previously won for Hoop Dreams.
The winners will be announced at the 61st Annual DGA Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. Read more.

A reminder to join us for two Kartemquin screenings this week…
First, Kartemquin's first film, Home for Life is screening on Wednesday night the 23rd at 7:30pm in Evanston as a part of the REELTIME series. Join filmmakers Gordon Quinn and Jerry Temaner for this evening of documentary and discussion. Get the details.
Also, Vietnam Long Time Coming, is screening on Saturday night the 26th at 5:45pm at the Hyde Park Art Center as a part of their Creative Move event. Director Jerry Blumenthal will introduce the film and answer questions afterwards. Get the details.

Kartemquin at Full Frame this weekend!

There's a flurry of Kartemquin activity at this year's Full Frame Film Festival in North Carolina starting tomorrow morning! Kartemquin's award-winning 2004 series The New Americans is screening in segments beginning tomorrow morning at 10:45. Then, fresh from SXSW and the Dallas Film Fest, At the Death House Door is screening at 7:15pm Friday night. Lastly, Erik Weihenmayer, one of the subject's of Kartemquin's Vietnam Long Time Coming, is the focus of Blindsight, a film about a group of Blind Tibetans scaling Mt. Everest.
Kartemquin's Gordon Quinn, Steve James, Peter Gilbert and Aaron Wickenden are attending the festival to represent the films.

Free Outdoor Screening

To celebrate the re-release of Kartemquin's Emmy-Award winning documentary, Vietnam, Long Time Coming on DVD, the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum and Kartemquin Films are hosting a reception at the Museum and an outdoor screening of the film in the beautiful, adjacent Clarke House Museum Park. Please bring a picnic blanket and join us for this free, summer event. Thanks to Goose Island for donating some cold 312 and Rootbeer, and to Wishbone for generously providing snacks.
