Kartemquin’s Justine Nagan just returned from presenting clips of Typeface at TYPECON, the national type conference sponsored by the Society of Typographic Aficionados. She received wonderful support for the project while there.

Typeface receives generous donation and press coverage

Kartemquin’s doc in progress, Typeface recently received a generous donation of $5,000 from Mohawk Paper for continued post-production on the film. These funds come at a critical time for the project and will allow editing to continue . The crew is poised to kick-off a fundraising campaign with the goal of raising $50,000 by September. Additionally, Mule Magazine recently interviewed Director Justine Nagan for their latest edition. Read the story on page 53 about the film and the Hamilton Museum. Copies of the magazine will also be available around the Chicago area.

Typeface generating buzz

Kartemquin across the midwest

Kartemquin's Justine Nagan traveled to Plymouth, MN on Thursday to speak to two classes at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School about her career in documentary film making. The ninth and tenth grade AVID students participated as a part of their english and social studies coursework and were inquisitive and open during the discussion. Thanks to Ms. Fuller and her colleagues for instigating the visit.

Typeface granted again

Kartemquin on Producer's Panel

Kartemquin's Director of Communications and Distribution, Justine Nagan, participated on a panel entitled, "Getting Your Film on Television" as part of the Midwest Independent Film Festival, at Landmark Cinema last night. She joined Street Thief Director Malik Bader, WTTW's Annie Potter, and Current TV's Erik Nordby, to address the sold-out crowd prior to a screening of Bader's film.

Typeface benefit a huge success

Last Friday, over 150 graphic design and film enthusiasts gathered in the gallery at The Center for Book and Paper Arts in Chicago to raise production funds for Kartemquin's work-in-progress. Guests enjoyed live blue-grass music, desserts from MJ Catering, wine from Toad Hollow Vineyards and a silent auction featuring nearly 60 works from artists across the country. A seven-minute trailer for the documentary screened, and over $8,000 was raised to support the film. Typeface awarded first big grant from the IHC
