A Very Kartemquin 2018 Oscars Re-Cap!

This past Sunday we celebrated a momentous occasion in the 52-year history of Kartemquin: following their nominations two of our films, Edith+Eddie and Abacus: Small Enough to Jail, traveled to the 90th Academy Awards® along with their respective filmmaking teams. Edith+Eddie directed, produced and edited by Laura Checkoway and produced by Thomas Lee Wright was nominee in the Best Documentary (Short Subject) category. Abacus, directed by Steve James and produced by Mark Mitten and Julie Goldman was a nominee in the Best Documentary Feature category. Minding the Gap embarks on robust festival run, including International and Chicago premieres

Minding the Gap is slated to play a slew of prestigious festivals in the coming months, including the film's international premiere at CPH: DOX in the fest's Next:Wave competition on March 16, Chicago premiere at DOC 10 on April 8, and Rockford premiere on August 25.  Minding the Gap will also screen at the 2018 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, running April 5-April 8. In 2017, director/producer/editor Bing Liu was a recipient of the fest's Garrett Scott Documentary Development Grant. Eric Hynes recently wrote about the film in Film Comment Magazine, deeming it: "Heartbreakingly honest... The footage that makes up Minding the Gap remains raw and true to the end."  Continued

Minding the Gap wins One in a Million award at Sun Valley Film Festival

The Sun Valley Film Festival announced today that Minding the Gap, the debut feature from director Bing Liu, earned the fest's One in a Million Award! The One in a Million award "celebrates the heart of independent film, and films made with a budget of less than a million dollars." This is the second award thus far for Minding the Gap, which took home the Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Filmmaking at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival this past January, following its world premiere at the fest. Raising Bertie now available for purchase on DVD!

The award-winning debut feature from director Margaret Byrne, Raising Bertie, is now available for purchase on DVD. Buy the film here. The film earned the Best Documentary Feature award at the 2016 Atlanta DocuFest, the Special Jury Award for Documentary Feature at the 2017 Atlanta Film Festival, and Margaret Byrne earned the Best Director award at the 2016 Atlanta Underground Film Festival. Following a robust theatrical run in partnership with Gunpowder & Sky during the summer of 2017, Raising Bertie had its world television broadcast premiere on PBS' POV in August of 2017.
