Abacus has UK premiere in London; earns extended run

Abacus: Small Enough to Jail, the newest film by director Steve James earned an extended run at Bertha DocHouse in London, after a successful UK Premiere and week-long theatrical engagement at the theater.
Abacus will play at the Bertha DocHouse through Thursday, July 20th. Tickets HERE.
Director Steve James joined audience members via Skype on opening night for a post-screening Q&A.

Hoop Dreams ranks #2 in Rolling Stone's '100 Greatest Movies of the Nineties' list

Hoop Dreams by filmmakers Steve James, Frederick Marx and Peter Gilbert, earned #2 on Rolling Stone's '100 Greatest Movies of the Nineties' list. Eric Hynes called the film "A full-on, time-tested American masterpiece."

Edith+Eddie, Abacus head to Kosovo for DokuFest

Both Edith+Eddie and Abacus: Small Enough to Jail are official selections for the 2017 DokuFest taking place in Pritzren, Kosovo, August 4-12.
Both films have been extremely successful on the festival circuit thus far, with DokuFest's announcement coming on the heels of Edith+Eddie's win at the 2017 Palm Springs International ShortFest. The film earned the Jury Award for Best Documentary Short, taking home a $2,000 cash prize and eligibility to submit to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for Oscar consideration.

All The Queen's Horses world premieres at MVAAFF

Kartemquin Films is pleased to announce the World Premiere of its latest documentary, All The Queen's Horses, at the Run & Shoot Filmworks Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival at 1PM on Wednesday, August 9th. The film is a finalist in the festival’s HBO Documentary Competition.

Abacus: Small Enough to Jail, the newest film by director Steve James is now available to pre-order on DVD for the special price of $19.99 (usually $24.99) until September 12! The DVD includes complete Mandarin subtitles.

Abacus has had an extremely successful theatrical run through PBS Distribution, holding for six consecutive weeks at the IFC Center in New York City and earning extended runs in the following cities: Berkeley, Boston, Washington D.C., San Francisco and London; as well as a return engagement in Chicago at the Gene Siskel Film Center beginning August 4!
Abacus returns to the Gene Siskel Film Center for a week-long engagement, running August 4-10.

Margaret Caples, DVID co-founder, receives Gene Siskel Film Center's Legacy Award

Margaret Caples, both the co-founder of Diverse Voices in Docs (DVID) and executive director of the Community Film Workshop, will receive the Gene Siskel Film Center Legacy Award at the 23rd Annual Black Harvest Film Festival on August 6th at 5:30PM. Caples will be presented with the award ahead of the festival's screening of the Chicago Premiere of Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Black Colleges and Universities. A reception in honor of Caples will follow the screening.
