Generation Food smashes crowdfunding goal
August 17, 2012

With just a few hours left before their Indiegogo campaign closes, Steve James and Raj Patel have raised almost $60,000 for their new project Generation Food, smashing their original $50,000 goal.
The crowdfunding has come from almost 500 different individual donors giving at an average of over $100 to gain perks such as signed DVDs (and even Laserdiscs!) of Steve James' Kartemquin documentaries, postcards from Raj Patel to be sent from an upcoming shoot in Malawi, and exclusive private masterclasses with each of them, among many more options. Late celebrity endorsements for Generation Food came via Twitter from chef Tom Colicchio and via email from actor Jake Gyllenhaal.
The funds will go towards the ongoing production and research of this transmedia book, film and web project, due for release in 2014. We recommend you continue to follow their progress on Facebook and Twitter and at their official website.
Edit: The final total for the successful crowdfunding campaign was $60, 940 raised from 534 funders.
