The Interrupters wins big in New Zealand
May 3, 2012

Last night The Interrupters claimed the latest awards in its incredible run of festival victories, sweeping three categories at New Zealand's Documentary Edge Awards: Best Feature Documentary, Best Director (Steve James - shared with Chris Paine of Revenge of the Electric Car), and Best World Cinema. Read about their wins here.
We also want to congratulate Kartemquin associate Xan Aranda, whose superb film Andrew Bird: Fever Year was also honored by Documentary Edge as the "Best Culture Vultures" category winner. Xan's film was part of our KTQ Labs: Feedback Screenings program and featured excellent work by Kartemquinites Liz Kaar (editor), and cinematograhers Peter Gilbert and Aaron Wickenden.
In previous years (when the festival was known as Doc NZ), Kartemquin films At The Death House Door won the World Cinema Award in 2009 and Terra Incognita: Mapping Stem Cell Research received an honorable mention in 2008.
The Interrupters is available on DVD and to watch free online. It continues to screen across the US and has international dates coming up in The Netherlands, Macedonia and Ecuador.
