The film had previously been in 1st place when POV first made the chart at the end of 2011. Best Documentary wins at the Cinema Eye Honors and on Saturday at the Independent Spirit Awards helped the film hold its place despite being infamously passed over for an Academy Award nomination (and just like Hoop Dreams in 1994, sparking a furore that led to the AMPAS Documentary branch announcing a new set of rule changes to their voting and qualifying processes).
