Almost There Chicago Premiere announced for January

On Saturday January 10th at 7:45pm and Sunday, Jan 11th at 3:00pm, Gene Siskel Film Center at the School of the Art Institute will host the Chicago Premiere of Almost There. Get tickets here: Almost There is a coming-of-(old)-age story about 83-year-old Peter Anton, an “outsider” artist living in isolated and crippling conditions whose world changes when two filmmakers discover his work and storied past. Shot over eight years, Almost There documents Anton’s first major exhibition, held in 2010 at Chicago’s INTUIT: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, and how the controversy it generates forces him to leave his childhood home. LA premiere announced for Almost There

The Arclight Cinemas Documentary Series will host the Los Angeles premiere of Dan Rybicky and Aaron Wickenden's Almost There on Monday November 24, at 7:30pm. Tickets can be purchased here. Curated by filmmaker and President of the International Documentary Association Board, Marjan Safinia, the ArcLight Documentary Series "brings some of the best documentary films of the year to ArcLight Hollywood’s cinephile audience." KTQ producers star in 2014 New City Film 50

Chicago's New City magazine has published it's 2014 list of Chicago's "Screen Gems" - an annual list of the top 50 film artists in the city - and for the second year in a row, a Kartermquin producer is at #1. Steve James takes the top spot this year, receiving praise for his work on Life Itself and his long career of "explorations of the heart and humanity of Chicago." Out of the 50 names, the list contains a total of 11 Kartemquin producers and associates. These are: #1 - Steve James, director/producer of The Interrupters, and many more. Continued

It's There! Kickstarter success for Almost There

Early on Saturday morning - after being selected as Kickstarter project of the day and video of the day and raising over $6,000 in less than 24 hours - Almost There made their $20,000 crowdfunding goal! These funds mean we can now bring this film to the world! Now with the crowdfunding campaign still running until midnight on Friday, August 8th, the Almost There team has also unveiled some spectacular "stretch goals" that will appeal to anyone who has already become entranced by the beguiling, moving story of outsider artist Peter Anton. Almost There edges closer to Kickstarter success

Crowdfunding platform Kickstarter has selected Almost There as the "Film & Video Project of the Day" on their homepage today! The wonderful news comes in hand with also picking their Kickstarter appeal as "video of the day." The film, co-directed/produced by Dan Rybicky & Aaron Wickenden, follows their 'discovery' of elderly outsider artist Peter Anton, and the complications and ethical conundrums that ensue as they become more involved in his life and art. With just 7 days left to get to their goal of $20,000, the filmmakers have raised over $16,000 from 240+ backers as of this morning. Help them get to the goal! Continued

Almost There enjoys special friends & family preview

This past weekend we celebrated the final stages of completing our new film Almost There with a special sneak preview for friends, people in the film, and Kickstarter backers at Pierogifest, where - eight years ago to the day - filmmakers Dan Rybicky and Aaron Wickenden first met their star, Peter Anton. The film was wonderfully received by all who came to the historic Hoosier theater in Whiting, Indiana, with many of the subjects seeing the work for the very first time.
